Girlfriend's Care

COATS FOR KIDS NEEDED! One of My Favorite local charity Girlfriends Care and my gal/founder Gini Craig is asking for coats and other clothing items for kids in need. Here's the scoop....As winter and the holiday season are approaching, we're participating in a collection campaign to collect NEW JACKETS, SWEATSHIRTS, PAJAMAS AND UNDERWEAR for children who are taken into protective custody by a division of SD County Welfare Services, referred to as "Drug Endangered Children".

The drive is being coordinated by Cpl. Darbie Ernst of the Carlsbad Police Department plus some of our Girlfriends have family and friends who work there. SO, let's pitch in and see what kind of difference we can make to these children ages Newborn to 17 years who often come into the system with nothing to call their own.

WHAT: New jackets, sweatshirts, pajamas and underwear for sizes Newborn to 17 years.

WHEN: Beginning October 15 through October 30th! (I wanted to give you a jumpstart on shopping this weekend!)

WHERE: Either of the donation drop sites below or the Carlsbad Police Department at 2560 Orion Way, Carlsbad.

Medicare & Obamacare

Well here I am today taking more Medicare Certification tests for Anthem CA, its so frustrating. This is the most nerve racking time of the year for me in our biz, we NOW not only have to get all our Medicare testing done by 10/1 but now we have to get obamacare certified too by the same deadline. I Had a great busy day yesterday.  I overbooked myself as I sometimes do but I didn’t regret it.  I was glad to be able to attend an amazing event this am thru LifePro.   They had Norman Levine come to speak to a bunch of us agents.  He‘s been in the business since he was 21 years old.  He’s been with three companies throughout his career.  He’s been in the biz for 68 years!  He’s an Amazing man and Insurance agent.  He had some great advice for the new agents as well as us old old folks.  If you ever get a chance to hear him speak whether you are in the insurance business or not, take up the opportunity.  You won’t regret it. Thanks so much to my friend RJ Kelly for inviting me!  I really appreciate it.  I had two guests come to Money 101 today for lunch and 3 for dinner. Obamacare, Money 101 and More!

Wow! It's been a very busy last two weeks.  Obamacare has me very busy.  I am trying to stay up on everything and all the changes.  Unfortunately its difficult when I get emails weekly telling me something else in the law has changed or is not up to date or is being delayed.  I am trying to get certified to sell the plans by 10/1. Unfortunately the test has not been created yet.  We have also been told they will not meet their 10/1 deadline to have the online enrollment site set up.  What can we expect?

I have met with three girlfriends all going thru a divorce to help them with their financial and insurance needs these last few weeks. It's so sad.  I am very happy though that I am able to help them not only as a friend but as a professional.  I am so sad to see people split up who once loved each other very much. I feel so blessed that I am married to a amazing man, it seems it's so rare today.  If you are going through a tough time and need assistance with a divorce, my friend Nancy Fagan can help.  She is a divorce expert and she is the founder of the Divorce Help Clinic.  I also highly recommend that you get your estate in order.  If you havent it can be very dangerous to your finances.  My friend Kylie Fletcher can help.  She is a wonderful and caring estate planning attorney.  She is the founder of Fletcher Law.

TNT

Every Thursday night we have Training at Five Rings Financial, its called TNT.  It's very educational and sometimes heart warming and I love it every week.  Some of my colleagues are telling their personal stories as to how selling insurance has changed their lives.  I agree. I started 21 years ago as a college Student at SDSU.  I was an intern for a few months and then was offered a full time gig. It wasn't my dream but since my friends had all moved home or were "flipping burgers at McDonalds", I said yes.  I had a very strict Japanese Mother so I was not about to move back home and It was north of LA, forget that!  Well one of my first assignments as an agent and the Customer Service person for our John Hancock office in Mission Valley was to go on a death claim call. I sat with this woman for hours, she must have been in her 70s. When I presented the check to her she was happy but was still torn from being widowed. It was one of the most interesting and hardest things I had ever done up to the young age of 22.  That day changed my life and I saw how important life insurance was.  I immediately went and bought my own policy. I was not married nor did i have kids but I bought it anyhow.

Three years ago we lost my mom to Lung Cancer, she did not have any supplemental insurance at all, NO cancer ins.  She only had $1000 life ins policy, ridiculous!  Now my father is struggling and I certainly don't want this to happen to my husband should I predecease him.  For the two years before my mom passed my dad was the sole caretaker, he himself was fighting cancer as well.  In fact for a few short years a few years ago we had 3/4 parents fighting cancer all at the same time, it was hell!  My father 3x times denied me in the last 21 years stating he nor my mother would not need Long Term Care Insurance, do you think he needed it, esp for my mom, YES he did, he was the sole caretaker and was going broke.  The emotional part of these few years for him I am SURE were difficult.  He never showed it but I know he was struggling.

Next mo is Life Insurance Awareness month and it is a very imp mo in my life.  I don't take it lightly and neither should you!  If you don't have life insurance please get it.  If you love yourself and your family you will do it.  And please make sure you get Living Benefits as well.  Its life insurance you don't have to die to use and its the best plan on the planet.  Not all brokers offer it.  If you don't have supplemental insurance and cancer, Diabetes, strokes, heart disease, etc. runs in your family, please get it, your health ins does NOT cover all things for all people.

Being a Guru at Hera Hub

Since the inception of Hera Hub I have been the Community Small Business Health Insurance Guru there.  I LOVE it and it has brought me a lot of referrals and business over the last year.  I am so grateful to my long time friend Felena Hanson not only for opening Hera Hub but for including me in this great venture from the beginning.  Staring next mo I am going to make a big change along with the opening of Hera Hub in Carlsbad.  I am going to change to the Tax Free Retirement Guru for Hera Hub in Carlsbad.  I will be there on Tuesdays from 2-4pm donating my time.  Thanks!  I look forward to this great change. I also look forward to the fun I will be having in the business in the future.  With Obamacare starting in a few months, I have had to make some great business changes.  I will still be taking referrals for health insurance and helping people with their health insurance needs but for the Hera Hub community I will be the Tax Free Retirement Guru.  Due to the make up of Hera Hub I am not able to do both as I anticipated doing months ago.  I have to pick one location and be just one guru.  I have been in the Financial Services business for over 20 years and have 10+ years now experience helping people with health insurance.  We are in for a great ride over the next few years with the PPACA.  Have a great week all!

Covered CA Q&A!

How Are Off-Exchange Plans Different?

**Question**: From my understanding, the carriers that are participating in the exchange have to offer the same plans outside of the exchange which are IN the exchange and nothing more. Is this correct? **Answer**: Off-exchange, carriers have to offer the standard plans offered inside Covered California without modification. But they are free to offer other benefit designs off-exchange as long as they conform to ACA guidelines such as essential health benefits and actuarial values. This should allow for a little innovation. Also all HSA-qualified plans will be off-exchange.

PPACA

Today, the Obama administration announced that the employer mandate aspect of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) will be delayed by one year.

This mandate requires businesses with 50 or more workers to provide health insurance coverage to employees. As a result, the administration will start enforcing the mandate in 2015, rather than January 1, 2014, in an effort to give businesses more time to prepare.

There will be additional changes tied to this delay, and the administration has stated that they will provide formal guidance within the next week.
